UK group steps up Ebolavirus vaccine development in response to outbreak 

In response to the current Bundibugyo Ebolavirus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Oxford Vaccine Group (OVG) has reported that it is working urgently with the Clinical BioManufacturingFacility and the Serum Institute of India (SIIPL) to rapidly produce and scale doses of its ChAdOx-based monovalent Bundibugyo Ebolavirus candidate vaccine, ChAdOx1 BDBV.

Single-shot gene therapy could cut cholesterol by 62%  


Results from the Heart-2 study into VERVE-102, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, showed reductions of up to 62% in a cohort of 35 participants, with durability observed for up to 18 months following treatment.

Findings from ChristianaCare’s Helen F Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute identified a developmental genetic pattern that helps explain how colorectal cancer develops, why it becomes aggressive and how long patients are likely to survive.

Scientists at the University of Reading found that when stem cells from the mouth were transplanted into mouse brain tissue, they slowed cancer growth and reduced the size of tumours formed.

Peter Davies, Deputy Director at the Texas A&M Health Institute of Biosciences and Technology, and his colleagues have been awarded a Dementia and Alzheimer’s Initiative (DARI) seedling grant for work into delivering medication past the blood-brain barrier.
